It happens everywhere in the world. Well, anywhere that gets
cold. The temperature drops, the coats get thicker, and most importantly, it
becomes soup weather. Like just about everything else, Taiwan does it
a little differently. The cold here is referring to lower 60’s and the soup is
more like…umm… well…. I don’t really know how to explain it. They call it Hot
Pot. It’s a bowl of broth, cabbage, tofu, tofu skin, pork, egg, mushrooms,
noodles, blood cake, squid balls, more noodles, meat in tube form, rice balls
and probably about 5 other things I am forgetting. They put it over a fire that
is on your table and it cooks in front of you. We were not sure how long to
wait before digging in so we just stared eating immediately. These Hot Pot
restaurants have been sitting empty for most of the time I have been here.
Since the temp has dropped you can barely find an empty seat. Here are some
pictures...
Wishing for some of that winter weather. Stuck in the 60's and 70's. No snow in sight. My sleds are rusting, No desire for soup.
